I have not been doing a very good job of reflecting on the Mass readings. Too many days, I feel, I have relied on the meditations I wrote a few years ago. Today, though (maybe because teaching has finished?), I have returned to my old friend, Psalm 46:10, at thinking coram Deo: ‘Cease striving, and know that I am God’. Thanks for reading.
A very good point: that Lent should leave us wanting for God. If wanting for material bread does not incline us to want for the Bread of Life, then fasting is of no avail. And, too often we either glory in the accomplishment of our Lenten disciplines or lament for our failure to accomplish. We mistake means for the end, as if the giving-up were a good in itself. Thank you for a very insightful reflection, Medi. God bless you and yours!
